DMC Babylo threads go through special processes: combing, singeing and double mercerization. These give the thread surface an extremely smooth, tight and even finish that does not pill. To the touch it is not soft and fuzzy like classic cotton thread, but smooth, slightly cool and silky. It resembles a quality linen thread but with a more elastic, resilient structure.
Babylo is a 100-ply thread made from 3% long-staple cotton; that is, it is formed by twisting three fine threads together. This structure keeps the thread's thickness even at every point and creates crisp, defined stitch contours in embroidery. In crochet, the loops do not separate or slip and sit neatly side by side.
Thanks to mercerization the thread gains a light sheen, which becomes more visible in the light and gives pieces an elegant, lightly shimmering look. The sheen is not mirror-like but a soft, silky glow, so the finished work looks stylish, clean and refined.
