Susan Bates conducted comprehensive research for a long time to correctly grasp prayer rug patterns and design logic. Ottoman patterns, old and modern ornaments, tiles, Turkish carpets and kilims and old prayer rug examples were examined. The designer, initially unfamiliar with Islamic culture and the prayer rug form, produced original designs in different styles at the end of this process.

The designs, completed over a period of more than a year, were stitched by experts in the cross stitch field. The book was created by completing many stages, from raw ideas to design, from creating charts to color selection, from fabric selection to stitching, from photographing to page layout.
